Windis Oy is a Finnish HVAC equipment manufacturer from Veteli. We build devices for managing air and heat in buildings – and the software they are sized and commissioned with.
Windis was born on a construction site
An air curtain installation always followed the same pattern. Service hatch open, components fitted on the spot, wiring done in a cramped space standing on a stool. Then the unit was started, the door opened and closed, and everything appeared to work.
Appearing to work is not the same as working. Nobody knew whether the unit ran at the capacity written in the design. Not the installer, not the designer, not the building owner three years later, when the heating bill was what it was.
We asked two questions. Why does a unit have to be assembled on site, if it can be assembled at the factory? And why does a unit's performance have to be assumed, if it can be measured?
Windis is the answer to those two questions.
Two rules
The work is done at the factory.
Everything that can be installed, wired and tested in Veteli is done in Veteli. On site the unit is ready, and someone has already checked that it works. Product generation by product generation we push that boundary further.
The unit tells you what it does.
We do not assume performance, we measure it – first in the laboratory, then on site for the unit's whole service life. The number in the design and reality are rarely the same thing, and that difference is worth knowing.
Neither is a marketing line. They are the criteria we use to decide what gets built next.
Usually it does not work
Run-around coil heat recovery is simple in principle: a fluid circulates between extract and supply and transfers heat. In practice the calculated efficiency and the realized efficiency are rarely the same number. The system is sensitive to control, and control is most often the part that has not been finished.
We have finished that part. Our technology has been delivered to thousands of sites, and where it is in use, it works.
Windis Zero is this technology with our own controller. Zero IQ is the next step: an algorithm that adjusts the system based on its real behaviour instead of default values.
Designed and built in Veteli
Veteli is a municipality of 3,000 people in Central Ostrobothnia. That is where the units are made.
We also make what is inside the unit ourselves: the controller, its software, the sizing tool and the commissioning app. In an industry where most manufacturers buy their controllers ready-made, that is an unusual choice. It also means there is nobody to hide behind if something does not work.
That suits us.
